Monday Beer Review Of The Week: D-Light from Atwater Block Brewery, is it D-Lightful?

Posted by Alexis Arlington on July 13, 2009

Atwater-D-LightWhile grocery shopping on Monday I was in the mood to try something new. I searched the refrigerated beer section of our local Kroger for a Michigan brew. I was disappointed to find only one, so I bought it. Being a Metro-Detroiter I really wanted to like it, and I did! This little gem, D-Light, from the Atwater Block Brewery in downtown Detroit is terrific! It’s a very crisp and refreshing Kolsch style beer, perfect for relaxing after a long day outdoors. The flavor is ideal for a “novice” beer drinker and pairs exceptionally well with fare such as burgers, salads and hot dogs, your typical summertime foods. The light hoppiness is also a nice entry point into an IPA for those that typically play it safe with their beer. I thoroughly enjoyed the beer and will continue to purchase it as a “fridge filler”. I’m interested in trying some of their other varities such as the Salvation IPA or the MAI-BOCK.

Monday Beer Review Of The Week: Bell’s Oberon

David’s Review

Bell’s Oberon has become a seasonal favorite among most of Michigan’s beer patrons. Oberon is a great example of an American Pale Wheat Ale, it has a very full flavored wheat body with citrus under tones. It is a regular practice to pair this beer with an orange slice to bring out the fruit flavors even more. This is one of Bell’s most popular seasonal beers, I have heard many stories of people stocking up on it and storing it during fall and winter, so that it can be enjoyed out of season. Personall, I think there is nothing better than seating on the deck on a warm summer night with friends and a bucket of cold Oberons being passed around. This is very much a social beer and should be enjoyed with friends.

Cimaglia’s Review

Bell’s Oberon
Kalamazoo’s own Summer Wheat Ale is the most popular micro brew in Michigan; it has been a summer regular for over ten years. No doubt, on a hot summer evening, there is no ale I would rather drink than an Oberon in a glass!

Color: Reminiscent of a hot summer sun with bright hues of orange; slightly cloudy.

Flavor: A wheat undertone that defines summer ales; hoppy: Tastes of green hops, much like summer grass: The foundation of summer. Overtones of orange peel that is as bright as the sun; perfect with a twist of orange. Michigan’s Summer Ale defines summer in the Great Lakes State in a single taste!
