Wednesday Beer Review: Boddington

Posted by David on March 20, 2009

Ok, so I am a day late and a dollar short on this week’s beer review… I don’t even have a good excuse. Anyways, moving right along … This week I reviewed a beer that many of my friends have told me about and recommended as “authentic” pub English pub beer. Now whenever I hear the term “authentic” I am immediately skeptical. I have found that often when something is authentic that is another way of saying, “well it didn’t ship well, so we made it here with the same recipe and ingredients but it has turned out just a hair different, but close enough.” Since I have never had a Boddingtons in England I cannot compare to a truly authentic English stout. I must though, I was very impressed with this beer, and it had a very sharp, smooth hoppy taste. I found the beer to be well received on the palette and I am thinking that a really good Sheppard’s pie would go excellent with this beer. When poured this beer kept a slight head on it, but was not excessively foam, I think that this is due to the widget technology they have. All in all I have a found a new beer to add to my list of favorites.
