Monday Beer Review of The Week: Budweiser Light Lime

Posted by David on June 16, 2010

I am a total skeptic about any of the Budweiser products, but I am a fan of their American Ale, so when a friend brought over a six pack of Budweiser Light Lime I thought I would give it a try. I must say that it actually had a good flavor to it and I was able to drink a couple of them with out getting that heavy “drinking with friends” feeling that can sometimes sneak up on you when you have had four of five beers. While the predominant flavor of this beer was the lime, the smoother rice and barley flavors were still present. I would have say this may become another of my “going out” beers, we all have two or three beers that we like that are fairly cheap at the our local watering hole, where we can have a couple of beers with our friends and not break the bank. This is definitely not the higher shelf beers that I have become accustomed to in recent years, but it doesn’t have have a bad taste, it is very smooth and I can live with the strong lime flavor as I am an avid Gin and Tonic drinker as well. This is actually a Budweiser lager that I would actually say is pretty middle of the road and a good bar standby beer, especially during these warmer summer months.

Monday Beer Review Of The Week: Leffe Blond

Posted by David on November 3, 2009

leffeLeffe is an excellent winter beer, though to be honest I think that most of the Belgium and Winter style beers are excellent for this time of the year. There is something about how the spices of the beer work together with the foods and cold air that is blowing through that makes these beers suited to the colder weather. Inbev’s Leffe is an “Abbey” Belgium beer once associated with the Notre Dame de Leffe which was founded back in 1152 in southern Belgium and was the local wild fruits and spices that gave this ale it distinct and unique flavor profile. Currently Leffe is bottled by Anheuser-Busch in the United States, but is produced at the Stella Artois brewery in Leuven. Leffe has tones that can be found in most Belgium Winter ales such as Hoegaarden, but with slightly less spicy character and a smooth wheat flavor. When you pour Leffe into a glass you a get the sweet and fruit tones that give your palate a distinct preview of the flavors to come. In summation, this is a great ale to keep around in the fall and winter months, it would be paired well with bowl of hearty soup or pasta.

Poor Man’s Beer Review

Posted by Gino on September 7, 2009

So I went to a party a week or so ago, and the choices of brews were really limited: Budweiser, Miller (and their respective “light” counterparts) and Molson Canadian. So I ordered a Bud. This is my favorite blog on beer, because it is the simplest, easiest written blog I have ever done.

Budweiser:

Taste: 1/5

Drinkability: 1/5 (but when consumed in mass amounts, 3/5)

Flavor: 0/5

Overall: 1/5

Consensus: Budweiser is like a tall, ice cold piss in a glass. But at least it was cold.

Wednesday Beer Of The Week: Shock Top

Posted by David on April 15, 2009

So, I have been AWOL for the last two weeks from this blog. It can simply be chalked up to life, however during my absence I have been able to get some research done and a few new beers drank. The first of the beers I will mention is one that I was honestly surprised by, Shock Top a Belgian given the name I was expecting a pop-style kraft beer. However, it did have a descent taste, nice snowy head and an aroma of wheat malt, orange peel and a tiny bit of coriander. While I wouldn’t be bragging about this beer, it has become normal priced beer that holds more flavor than the average Anheuser-Busch beers. I think that if you are a fan of Blue Moon you would like this beer, it is a decent fruity wheat beer that in most places is on the inexpensive side. I would say give it a try if nothing else.
