I love to experiment with food, I think that it helps to be a better cook for my family and friends, by trying out new flavor combinations and seeing what happens with them. I will admit some have been pretty good and some have been down-right horrible. However, earlier this week I tried out a new take an on an old classic recipe. The Ice Cream Float… but done with one of the Southern Tier Imperial Chokolat Stouts I had leftover from last week’s Beer Review Of The Week. This to me was an experiment that really could have gone either way, “vanilla ice cream and beer….. huh” I think would have been the reaction from those that would have tried it at first. But the sweetness and creaminess of the ice cream really does something fun and tasty with the coffee and chocolate flavors in the stout and helps to mellow out some of the bitter after taste that the pungent stout leaves behind. This is a great recipe and dirt simple to make, you can find the recipe below.
Beer Float:
Ingredients:
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
1 – 12oz Southern Tier Imperial Chokolat Stout (really any kind of chocolate, oatmeal or coffee beer could be used)
Directions:
1. Combine the ingredients and let sit for a minute or two before consuming!

As many of you know I am a big fan of the site Lifehacker.com and am an avid DIYer, so when I saw this article posted today about a Jockey Box that you can make on the cheap, my interest was peeked. This comes by way of the folks over at Make.com who come up with all kinds of cool and kooky little things that can be made in your local workspace. This one uses a beer tap, large cooler and mini-keg to create a portable cold beer delivery vessel.

Many times, beer “snobs” describe beer as being very characteristic of a certain style. Some of us here at Wisdom of Beer have been guilty of this bad habit. I call it bad habit because unless you are going out and hunting down lots of beers of the same style, the average beer drinker really don’t know what the benchmark for a style should be or how it should taste. So we are putting together a list of major and some minor styles of beer that are very representative of what a style of beer should be like, so that the average beer drinker can make the judgment for themselves, because we do believe that a knowledgeable beer drinker is a better beer drinker.

So I was just shooting through the online version of one of my favorite magazines, Men’s Health. I know that some people aren’t a fan of these type of “Men’s” magazines, but they are one of the few magazines that really focuses guys and being great modern men in the truest sense of the word. Anyways off my soap-box for a minute, as you all know I am a big fan beer and this week they posted a really good article on how beer can be used as an ingredient for cooking. This article describes how every day boring foods, can be transformed when beer is added to them it making them something new and interesting and often healthy too.
